about

All proceeds from Tree & Leaf will be donated to Stronger Than Stigma, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to mental health advocacy for millennials.

They work to empower and support college students and young professionals struggling with their mental health.

I have been working closely with Stronger Than Stigma from the inception of this record, and cannot understate how important their mission is to me and countless others who struggle with mental illnesses.

Please consider supporting us in our efforts to make sure that no one feels alone in their struggle. We're all in this together!

Track Name: The Cave-Dweller
Deep
Deep down
Come find me
Come seek me out with your heart and your soul
Where am I hid in the places of old?
Here there are caverns of glass
Rivers of gold

Come
Come down
I'm waiting
Under the earth where the light disappears
Here I have slumbered for thousands of years
Enter the chambers of woe
Oceans of tears

Breathe
Breathe, and be free

Look
Look down
'Cause it's happening
It's happening all around
Dark yields to light as I break through the ground
A whisper so quiet you can't hear the sound
Never go back to believing the lost won't be found

Breath
Breathe, and be free
Won't you just breathe?
Breathe, and be free
Be free again
Track Name: Not a War
It starts simple
Just a little life under the stars
And you can see it growing, climbing
Always reaching, never giving up

Mighty as a forest
And tender as a rose
Plant it in your heart
And let it grow, grow, grow

Love is not a war
Isn't keeping score
Love does not antagonize
Always looking up
Never losing hope
Love is patient and so kind
Why do we live like we're just killing the time?
When love is alive, it's coming alive
More than just a fling, oh
Love is a living thing
Yeah, love is a living thing

Once a sapling
She is now the grandest of them all
So run along and climb her branches
Reaching out as wide as they are tall

Mighty as a forest
And tender as a rose
Plant it in your heart
And let it grow, grow, grow

(2x)
Love is not a war
Isn't keeping score
Love does not antagonize
Always looking up
Never losing hope
Love is patient and so kind
Why do we live like we're just killing the time?
When love is alive, it's coming alive
More than just a fling, oh
Love is a living thing
Yeah, love is a living thing
Track Name: Little Bird
Little bird, where do you go
When there's nothing left in the nest for you
But the icy wind and the winter snow?
Little bird, how do you fly?
Who is it that taught you how to soar,
where and when and why?

Oh, that I could fly like thee
Spread my wings and flutter free
I see you there in the autumn air
But I've never left the tree
Oh, that I could fly like thee!

Little bird, what do you fear?
Why is it that I want to run away,
But you are always near?
Little bird, what do you sing
When the sun goes down and the dark surrounds
Little birds under your wing?

Oh, that I could sing like thee
Be part of a lovely melody
They say the truth can set you free
But it's so hard to believe
That I could sing like thee!

Everyday I'm listening
To the little song you sing
With sweet anticipation
Of the coming of the spring
Oh, you know that I feel better
Though the storm is getting wetter
We're just two little birds of a feather
You and me
Yeah, we're just two little birds of a feather
You and me

Little bird, what do you dream
When you're safe and sound, high above the ground
In the top of a walnut tree?
Little bird, whom do you love?
Who is it that makes your heart beat faster
When you're flying up above?

Oh, that I could love like thee
See the world as it's meant to be
They say it's a small one after all
But it seems so big to me
Oh, that I could love like thee!
Track Name: Tree Fable
Wicked winds bring me trouble
Say where, oh where, have my leaves all gone?
Autumn's fading and so am I
Everything is bound to change
But spring has never seemed so far away

What's the reason why?
Wither faster than I'm growing
Moving on is hard
But nothing's worse than being lonely

An oak has toppled to the ground
Someone came and chopped it down
If there was no one to hear it fall
Did it even make a sound?

Winter finds me forgotten
Days grow short as the shadows long
Leafless, lifeless and overgrown
I know that things will one day change
but this old tree is rooted in his ways

Where did I go wrong?
Hurts so much when I remember
These empty arms so cold
Are even colder in December

An oak has toppled to the ground
Someone came and chopped it down
If there was no one to hear it fall
Did it even make a sound?

These sticks and stones
They hurt like hell
But words they broke my spirit
And I shattered where I fell
We fought fire with fire
We're burning still
How can I ever trust somebody
Who believes the lies they tell?
These sticks and stones
They cause me pain
But words they broke my spirit
And drove all my hope away
We fought fire with fire
Instead of rain
How can I learn to love someone again?

An oak has toppled to the ground
Someone came and chopped it down
If there was no one to hear it fall
Did it even make a sound?
Track Name: Better Off Alone
One day I'll leave all the people behind me
The lights and the cars and my terrible diet, I will
And I'll be a farmer and plant me a vineyard
Bake my own bread and chop wood for the winter, I will
Yes I will

And I'll sleep alone under the stars
Learning their stories and telling my own
Every once in a while
On some afternoons I'll take it slow
Write a few letters to absolute strangers
And say hello just to say hello

There's no one in this world for me
I'm better off alone
Some things were never meant to be
I'm better off alone

Each passing year will be like a beginning
I'll gain a few pounds and my hair will start thinning, I'm sure
But I'll be a pine in an evergreen forest
The birds will come nest in my arms and hope for a soft winter
Still I'll be here

And some things I know never will change
Afternoon naps and the stacks of old books that I'll get to someday
And somewhere I know, so far away
You will live happily after without me to get in your way
I won't get in your way

There's no one in this world for me
I'm better off alone
Some things were never meant to be
I'm better off alone

So I'll barefoot in the pouring rain
Talk to rocks and forget my name
Grow a beard and go insane
Sleep my sorry life away
The sun will rise and the sun will set
Hills will dream as the skies grow red
Tree and leaf will become my bed
Maybe one day I'll forget

There's no one in this world for me
I'm better off alone
True love is simply make-believe
I'm better off alone
Track Name: Night Becomes a Fire
Night becomes a fire to spin my body all around
Spinning my body all around

I'm trembling, I'm shaking, still
The voices calling out for me to go
Come and go

When the morning, when the morning comes
What I wouldn't give just to see the sun
When the morning, when the morning comes
What I wouldn't give, what I wouldn't give
